French

Bonjour tout le monde!

Nelson Mandela once said:

If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.
‒Nelson Mandela

At St Paulinus we understand  that we live in a diverse community and we want to empower our children to be able to understand and learn from other cultures. Our French improvement plan aims  for each child to gain knowledge of the vocabulary and to become more confident in using French through songs and vocabulary.

As a school we use a range of materials to achieve this:

KS1- will explore the patterns and sounds of language through songs and rhymes and through the use of vocabulary in short weekly sessions.

Lower KS2- will use 'Tout le Monde' Scheme to learn new vocabulary, explore the patterns and sounds of language through songs and rhymes and engage in simple conversations in weekly sessions.

Higher KS2- will use 'Tout le Monde' Scheme to broaden their vocabulary and develop their ability to understand new words and speak in sentences, using familiar vocabulary, phrases and basic language structures.

After School Club

We also have a successful after School Club, organised by an outside company, that runs two separate sessions, one for KS1 children and one aimed at KS2 children. It's very popular and children have worked hard to organise a little show, 'The French Nativity' performance before Christmas.
