On Friday afternoon the whole school had a visit from two female fire officers who talked to us about their jobs and the different roles they both play in protecting and preventing people from getting harmed by fires and other accidents.
We learnt that one of the most important skills you would need to be in the fire service is to be able to work in a team and communicate well with people - this is crucial when fighting fires as the team often cannot see in front of their own hands so need to be work together to navigate a building. They also talked about the importance of using mathematical problem solving and scientific skills as part of their work.
They visited each class where they talked more about their roles and answered questions from the children. They also brought a fire truck and some additional fire fighters invited the children to look at the equipment and have a go at using a fire hose.
