At St Paulinus we teach our History, Geography, Art and Design and Design Technology curriculum through topic based learning.
Each half term the school has either a History or Geography based topic which has been carefully selected to ensure progression across the school using the National Curriculum objectives but also focussed on ensuring key skills are taught. The topics also aim to to ensure all groups of children are engaged and motivated as well as addressing topical issues in our world today (e.g. Year 5 Spring History topic in 2018 is 'Women and Votes').
For each topic there is an Art and Design or Design Technology project which runs alongside it (eg. a Year 4 Geography Topic is 'Welcome To The Sunshine State' which looks at earthquakes and the DT project is to design an earthquake shelter; a Year 2 Geography topic is 'Street Detectives' which explores the geography of our local area and the art focus is on London Artists). This has links to the main History or Geography learning but also ensures all content of the Art and DT curriculum is covered and progression is evident.
